Lady Broncos fall to Arapahoe, head into 2019 looking for a win

The Wauneta-Palisade girls’ basketball team looked like it had the season’s third win wrapped up entering the fourth quarter of Friday’s game at Arapahoe. But the turnover bug bit the Broncos over the final eight minutes and WP fell 36-43 to the Warriors.
Seniors Monique Gooden and Dakota Ingold scored WP’s first four points in the game. Michaela Dukes scored WP’s final four points and the Broncos trailed 8-12 at the end of the first quarter.
WP found it’s stride in the second quarter, putting 15 points on the board.
Gooden and Zoey Boos each hit three-pointers, to go with baskets by Dukes, Maycee Wheeler and Destany Simpson.
Dukes made 5-6 free throws in the first half to help WP to a 23-18 halftime lead.
The Broncos maintained their lead in the third quarter. Wheeler, Dukes and Ingold added to their point totals early in the half when WP increased its lead to 29-23. Arapahoe added three points over the final two minutes of the quarter before Simpson added a basket to keep the Broncos lead at five points, 31-26.
