Intelligence an asset for WP JH boys’ basketball team

Though there weren’t many wins for this season’s Wauneta-Palisade junior high boys’ basketball team, Coach Dave Kuhlen sees potential in the group.
Kuhlen said lack of experience led the biggest struggle with the team.
“A lot of the boys are going through their first year of organized sports and began the year kind of seeing practice as being the same as recess in elementary school,” Kuhlen said. “We still have our practice issues, but a group of the boys learned how to play with some competitive fire.”
The leaders on the team also do well in school, according to Kuhlen, and the intelligence helped on the court.
“They were able to see a bunch of different situations throughout the season and learn from them,” Kuhlen said. “We were able to have productive timeouts to get things changed toward the end of the season because they understood more of what I was talking about.”
