Imperial defends Chase County Cup in match play event with Enders

Imperial defended its right to hold the Chase County Cup for another year, defeating Enders 14.5 points to 9.5 points in the annual match play duel.
The 16th annual playing of the match took place at Enders Lake Golf Course (ELGC) this year.
Players from the Imperial Country Club (ICC) were coming off a 2016 victory that returned the cup to their clubhouse for the first time in two years.
Of the possible 24 points, Imperial won 14.5 points to retain possession of the cup. As the defending champion, Imperial only needed to score 12 points to keep the cup.
Over the 16-year history of the Chase County Cup, golfers for ELGC and ICC have each won the cup an even eight times.

Match play format
The event is played under match play rules over a possible 27 holes.
The first nine holes consists of best ball team play. The 12-man teams pair up into six twosomes to take on twosomes from the other team.
In best ball, two team members score their best ball against the best ball of the other team with one point at stake in each match for a total of six team points.
The second nine holes are played in an alternating stroke format with the twosomes alternating shots. Team members also alternate which holes they tee off on. Again, one point is at stake per match for a total of six team points.
The final nine holes features 12 head-to-head singles matches, with one point up for grabs in each singles match.

Doubles matches
The morning matches included the best ball and alternating shot formats.
At the completion of the best-ball matches, Imperial had won four and halved another while losing just one for a 4.5 to 1.5 point advantage.
Imperial built on their lead in the alternating shot matches, winning five against just one loss for a 9.5 to 2.5 advantage going into the afternoon singles matches.
In the afternoon singles matches, Enders came roaring back. In the first eight matches, Enders won five and halved two more for a 6-2 advantage to keep the cup in sight.
However, Imperial won three of the final four singles matches to lay claim to the cup for another year.
The 14.5-9.5 point win by Imperial duplicates their margin of victory over Enders last year. This represents the second highest margin of victory in the 16-year history of the event.
Enders still holds the largest margin of victory when they defeated Imperial 15-9 in 2015.
Golfers competing for Enders this year included Joe Humphrey, Jesse West, Rogan Einspahr, Joel Burke, Troy Space, Harold Nordhausen, Kerry Denker, Matt Teply, Matt Jablonski, Matt Borchers and Matt Klima. John Burke served as the team’s non-playing captain.
