Christner second, Nordhausen third at Friday’s DCS Invite

Friday’s Dundy County-Stratton Invite was the Wauneta-Palisade wrestling teams’ best meet of the season with Willis Christner and Evan Nordhausen each winning matches.
WP Coach Danny Schluckebier said everyone appreciated not needing to leave early to travel to the meet.
Nordhausen continued to wrestle in the 106-pound bracket thanks to a two-pound allowance, while Christner moved up to 170 pounds in an effort to make the 160 and 170 brackets more even.
Schluckebier said he appreciated working with coaches to ensure what was best for all wrestlers and make the meet run smoothly.
All in all, Schluckebier said it was a great meet.
Because it was a smaller meet, both wrestlers had three rounds.
Nordhausen was in the first match of the day and wrestled two full periods before losing by technical fall.
“Evan stayed with it, but just couldn’t keep ahead of the other kid,” Schluckebier said.
In his second match, Nordhausen was pinned. Schluckebier said Nordhausen made a simple mistake and couldn’t recover.
Nordhausen wrapped up his day with a pin.
“Evan may of been a little flustered or nervous and was too excited,” Schluckebier said.
“He almost got caught in a hold, but recovered, turned it around and won it with a pin for third place.”
Schluckebier said Christner didn’t mind moving up a weight class, and didn’t show any rust from Christmas break.
