Broncos second at Hitchcock County Tournament, busy weeks ahead

The Wauneta-Palisade Broncos volleyball team has struggled to get going at the Hitchcock County Tournament in recent years, but the Broncos put that behind them Saturday in Trenton.
    “We have incorporated a few morning practices and we also had a pre-game practice this year before we loaded the bus on Saturday morning to try and help us wake up and get focused for the day,” WP Head Coach Terra Higgins said.
    WP faced the hosts in the morning’s first game. The Broncos closed out the first set with a 16-4 run to win 25-14. Faith Lemon had two aces during the run.
    WP opened up a 9-1 lead in the second set behind the serving of Alexa Sandman.
    Leading 19-10, WP wrapped up the match with help from two kills by Haylee Sandman, one kill from Destany Simpson and an ace by A. Sandman. WP won the set 25-13.
    WP only missed one serve in the match.
    Following the win over the Falcons (8-4), WP took on Arapahoe (0-12) in the day’s second match.
    Simpson had three straight aces to open up a 7-1 lead. The Broncos cruised in the match. At one point WP held a 20-9 lead and wrapped up a the 25-13 win with a Payton Yearous kill.
