Emotions ran the gamut Friday at Arapahoe. Wauneta-Palisade boys’ basketball fans enjoyed fantastic first-half shooting by Duncan Rector, but were on the edges of their seats as Arapahoe stormed back in the fourth quarter.
    Rector scored 10 of WP’s first 11 points in the game, before a basket by Dennis Cavanaugh. The bucket pushed WP to a 13-8 lead until four-straight points by Arapahoe closed the gap to one point.
    The Broncos answered with a flurry of points over the final three minutes of the quarter. Rector scored off an offensive rebound, followed by a Ty Duvel basket. Rector scored once more on a layup then found Ben Anderjaska open for a three pointer. Once the dust cleared, WP led 22-12 at the end of the first quarter.
    Rector stayed hot in the second quarter, scoring WP’s first five points. While WP got baskets from Cavanaugh and Rector over the next 2:30, the Broncos went 1-6 from the free throw line. An offensive rebound off of the last miss led to a Rector three-pointer.
    As time ran down in the half, Rector found Anderjaska open for a three-pointer and a nice cut by George Lee led to a basket with an assist from Cavanaugh.
    WP held a 40-25 halftime lead.
    But Arapahoe, which played without Gentry Anderson in the Broncos’ 66-22 win in the Cattle Trail Invitational, started to show signs of life in the second half, thanks in part to a box-and-one that shut down Rector.
