WP students take part in academic competitions

Wauneta-Palisade students stayed busy in March with a variety of academic pursuits.
WP students traveled to Ogallala March 26 for Nebraska Science Olympiad Regional competition, the first time WP had taken part in the event.
Sponsor Marisa McDaniel said 11 junior high and two high school students made the trip.
Six junior high students earned medals and the group tied for third place.
Eighth-grader Kyle Jutten and seventh-grader Camden DeWester teamed up to place first in Circuit Labs.
McDaniel said the pair had to take a written test on circuits and do a hands-on lab.
Seventh-graders Ryleigh McCrumb and Mandy Sandoval finished second in Water Quality, which included a test on freshwater ecology and ID of macroflora and fauna.
Seventh-grader GraCee Goings and eighth-grader Chloe Stehno teamed up to place second in Write It/Do It.
“During this event Chloe went into a room and described an object that the judge built out of K’Nex and then GraCee had to use Chloe’s description to build the object,” McDaniel said. “Whichever team’s object was closest to the judge’s original received the most points.”
