On Monday, April 24, the Wauneta-Palisade third and fourth grade classes ventured down to Krotter Park in Palisade to plant a Catalpa tree in honor of Arbor Day. The tree was purchased by the Village of Palisade, to replace a memorial for Geraldine Smith that was damaged at the park. The tree-planting ceremony began with a lesson on the history of Arbor Day by Amy Seiler with the Nebraska Forest Service. Seiler told the students of the importance of caring for and planting trees for their generation.
