Wauneta-Palisade Speech Team opens season at Perkins County

Three members of the Wauneta-Palisade Speech Team kicked off their season Saturday at the Perkins County Speech Meet.
Team members are sophomores Matilda Malcolm, George Lee and Jessica Ehm with Christi Christner serving as their coach.
Lee performed an informative speech he prepared on Ted Bundy.
Malcolm composed a persuasive speech “Is School Dumbing You Down?” Malcolm uses John Taylor Gatto’s book “Dumbing Us Down” to highlight areas in the public school system she believes need improvement from both school faculty and community members.
Ehm participated in two categories: serious and poetry.
In her poetry piece, Ehm compiled four poems with the theme of music and wrote her owns transitions between pieces.
Ehm’s serious performance was written by Donna Marie Vaughn and titled “Amanda.”  The piece tells of an infertile couple who kidnap a baby from a hospital, but later get caught.
Christner said she was impressed with how her team performed at the large meet after working one-on-one since before Christmas.
