Teaching job a homecoming for W-P grad

Tayler Nordhausen’s career has brought her back home.
Nordhausen, 24, daughter of Chad and Sunni Nordhausen of Wauneta, has started work as one of five new teachers in the Wauneta-Palisade School District.
She graduated in 2016 from Doane University in Crete, Nebraska, with a bachelor’s degree in history. She’ll be team-teaching language arts with another new teacher, Erica Wood, and notes that she “kind of [took] an unusual path toward teaching.
When she started college, Nordhausen envisioned a career as a museum curator, which is why she majored in history. But she discovered that most such jobs are on the coasts, and “I didn’t really want to leave the Midwest” and her family, she said.
In the time since her graduation, she has taken graduate classes in at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln and worked for two years a special education paraprofessional. She plans to continue in her master’s program in history and also get a graduate degree in education.
