School Board delays bus buy
The Wauneta-Palisade Schools Board Monday delayed action on a purchase of new buses, opting instead to check into having a current vehicle refurbished.
Rod Gaston, who runs the district’s transportation program, told the current shuttle bus “was blowing a lot of smoke,” and a check by a mechanic showed that antifreeze was getting into the engine. It probably would require a rebuilt or entirely new engine, he said, the latter of which would cost about $27,000.
He also had gotten quotes from a bus company on a replacement, either a 2016 65-passenger model for $66,900 or a 2016 71-passenger bus for $65,900.
