Quiz Bowl team opens year at conference meet

When the Wauneta-Palisade High School Quiz Bowl team picks its opening competition of the year, it doesn’t mess around.
The team recently competed in the RPAC conference competition—its first of the year.
While it didn’t finish near the top, advisor Lori Klooz said it did pretty well.
The contest was organized as a pool competition, with each team playing all of the other teams in one of two pools and the top two going into semifinal matches. Students are given a five-point tossup question to be answered by whomever buzzes in first, then allowed to confer on a 10-point bonus question.
The WP team lost to Hayes Center 25-30 with five extra questions; lost 20-30 to Medicine Valley; lost 0-20 to Southern Valley; beat Maywood 20-15; beat Dundy County 5-0; and lost to Arapahoe, the eventual second-place finisher, 10-15. Cambridge won the tournament.
