Alexa Sandman named to NSAA Student Advisory Committee

Wauneta-Palisade sophomore Alexa Sandman is one of 10 Nebraska students selected to the Nebraska School Activities Association Student Advisory Committee for the 2020-21 school year.
Sandman was one of two WP sophomores nominated by WP guidance counselor Betsy Johanson and advisor Joseph Frecks.
“Alexa is an outstanding student/athlete and has some good previous experiences and leadership qualities that made her a great candidate,” Frecks said.
She completed two application essays on why she’d like to serve on the Student Advisory Committee and what she could do to improve sportsmanship.
In her essays, Sandman said being a member of the committee is a great opportunity to represent her fellow student athletes and it is a great opportunity to represent her school. Pointing out a shortage of refs and officials in southwest Nebraska, she suggested improving sportsmanship by having a unit about officiating during schools’ health or PE classes.
The NSAA received 75 applications, and whittled the list down to 10 who will serve for their junior and senior years. Students come from the NSAA’s six districts.
“The selection process was extremely competitive and focused on the representation of gender, school classification, minority representation, and participation in interscholastic athletics/activities.  This group collectively represents all the NSAA sponsored activities,” said the NSAA in a press release.
