Sharing the road
As farm equipment takes to the fields–and roads–it is a chance for drivers of both motor vehicles and farm machinery to determine what they can do to make our rural roads safer.
Rural roadways are a danger for motorists. The number of urban and suburban crashes far outweighs the number of rural collisions (by as much as 2-3 times), rural areas claim 55 percent of the fatalities.
In Nebraska, we’ve seen four factors involved in many of the crashes:
•motor vehicles attempting to pass farm machinery making left hand turns;
•intersection collisions, at both marked and unmarked intersections;
