Get Caught Reading this summer

May was Get Caught Reading Month. It was started back in 1999 by the Association of American Publishers, the AAP. It is now overseen by Every Child a Reader and is supported by the Lois Lenski Covey Foundation. It encourages every one of all ages to get caught reading all year long, but has designated May as Get Caught Reading Month, reports Extension Educator Tasha Wulf. Many celebrities and organizations have joined the cause. Posters of these celebrities and organization are given to teachers and libraries for free by request at www.getcaughtreading.org.
How can you get involved in Get Caught Reading Month? It’s simple….. read where people can catch you reading. It doesn’t matter if it’s a newspaper, a magazine, or a book.
It is important for children to see adults who enjoy reading. So be a good reading role model for your children and the children around you. You can also share on social media with #GetCaughtReadingMonth.
For parents with young children, Get Caught Reading to them aloud. According to the 15 MINUTES National Campaign done by The Read Aloud Organization, every child from birth needs to be read to by every parent for 15 minutes every day! Even children who can read, can benefit from being read to aloud. So spread the joy of reading and Get Caught Reading today!
