Minnie Ellen Briggs

    Minnie Ellen Briggs passed away on Dec. 10, 2018 in Omaha, Nebraska. Preceding her in death were her parents, Dr. and Mrs. C. Robert Carlson of Wauneta and husband William G. Briggs of Omaha.
    She is survived by her sister Roberta Innes; brother Jim Carlson; sister-in-law Margaret Carlson; and nieces Dr. Luanne Carlson and Kathleen Carlson.
    Minnie was born in McCook, Nebraska on Jan. 28, 1928. She was graduated from Wauneta High School in 1945 as class valedictorian. She attended the University of Nebraska and then transferred to the Immanuel School of Nursing in Omaha to pursue her life-long passion, receiving her certification as a Registered Nurse in 1949.
    She was united in marriage to William Gordon Briggs in 1952. Minnie practiced nursing for over 30 years first as a surgical nurse and then for the medical practices of Dr. James Quinn and Dr. Robert Langdon in Omaha.
    Minnie was a life-long member of the Order of the Eastern Star and several professional nursing organizations.
    Her favorite hobby was knitting, a skill she learned from her grandmother. She practiced this skill to provide knitted blankets, shawls, caps and other items to newborns and the elderly as well as for friends and family.
    Minnie’ s final residence in Omaha was Westgate Assisted Living where she made many friends and where she was an active jigsaw puzzle enthusiast and an avid “Cornhusker” fan. Minnie was a long-time member of the West Hills Church and leaves behind many friends and acquaintances.
