Janice Elaine Buss

    Janice Elaine (Stute) Buss passed away Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2017, at Miller Memorial Care Center in Chappell, Neb., after a courageous battle with ovarian cancer. She was 68-years young.
    Janice was born on June 15, 1949 in Imperial to parents Francis Fred “Frank” and Ardith Jean (Moon) Stute, Jr. She lived with her parents on the paternal family farm north of Benkelman where she attended rural Hoover School. The family relocated to the maternal family farm near Hamlet where she would finish school through eighth grade. She graduated from Wauneta High School in 1967. Janice continued her education at Parks School of Business in Denver, Colo.
    On Oct. 6, 1969, she was united in marriage to Ray Redden in Wauneta. The couple eventually made their home in Chappell. To this union two sons, Vance and Heath, were born. Janice worked for Leprino Cheese in Chappell and also in Fort Morgan, Colo., for almost 20 years as a bookkeeper. She was employed by the Sidney hospital in dietary for a short time. In 2000, she began working for Cabela’s in Sidney in the corporate office, continuing with bookkeeping in accounts payable. She retired in the fall of 2016.  Besides being a busy mother and grandmother and working full time, Janice cleaned several private homes and businesses around Chappell.
    On Aug. 1, 1995, she married Terry Buss in Chappell. The couple also made their home in Chappell.
    Janice was known for her infectious smile and her quiet demeanor. Her strong work ethic was instilled in her at an early age by her parents and growing up on a farm, a trait she never lost. She never complained about any of her health issues including the last battle with cancer. She faced the infliction head on and never lost her trust and faith in her Savior.
    A true meaning to the scripture Matthew 25:21 “Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter the joy of your master”.
    As a child she was baptized in the Benkelman United Methodist Church and was a member of the Chappell United Methodist Church where she served on several committees and stayed true to her faith for 68 years. She was also a member of the Preceptor Alpha Gamma Sorority, a group of women she held very dear to her heart.
    Janice loved to work in her yard and garden during the summer, often sharing her produce with family and friends. She enjoyed taking long walks, baking, her cat Bella and collecting bears. Family was very important to her and she adored all of her grandchildren and great-grandsons and the times spent watching them participate in all of their activities. Family gatherings with lots of food, card playing, laughter and just spending time together were foremost in her life.
    Preceding her in death were her father Frank Stute; maternal grandparents Harold and Lucinda Moon; and paternal grandparents Frank and Hazel Stute.
    Survivors include her husband Terry Buss of Chappell; sons Vance (Missy) Redden,of Wray, Colo. and Heath (Julie) Redden of Stamford, Texas; her mother Ardith Stute of McCook; sisters Gwendolyn (Mickey) Brunkhorst of Wauneta and Donna (Jim) Hall of McCook; grandchildren Trevor, Brett, Bridgette and Bailey Redden of Wray, Colo., LaRae and Levi Redden of Stamford and Grace (Tim) Beasley of Anson, Texas; great-grandsons Wyatt and Jesse Beasley; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and a host of friends.
    Memorials may be given in her name to the Preceptor Alpha Gamma Soroity.
    Visitation was held Friday, Aug. 11 at the Gehrig-Stitt Chapel in Sidney from 1 to 7 p.m.
    Funeral services were held at the Chappell United Methodist Church, Saturday, Aug. 12 at 11 a.m., with Rev. David Abbott officiating. Burial followed in Riverside Cemetery, Wauneta.
