Peaches are in season!

Peaches are in season and they are delicious! There is nothing better than a fresh peach, they are juicy and sweet and can be eaten fresh or with ice cream or in a pie or in peach crisp or in a smoothie. You get the idea, there are a lot of ways to eat fresh peaches.
    Peaches originated in China and were a symbol of long life. Today our neighboring state of Colorado is 6th in peach production in the United State and has over 2,400 acres of peach orchards.
    There are two types of peaches freestone and clingstone. Freestone peaches are usually what you can buy fresh and clingstone are used in canning and processing.
    A peach is a healthy choice for everybody. One medium peach has 50 calories. They are cholesterol, saturated fat, and sodium free and are a good source of Vitamin C and a great source of fiber. They rank high in phytochemicals and antioxidants. These two substances may decrease the chance of developing certain types of cancer. Peaches are also a good source of potassium and have some iron.
