Dan Kunnemann to lead Aug. 25 State Fair Parade as grand marshal

Later this month, the Nebraska State Fair will celebrate its ninth year in Grand Island, and an Imperial man involved in the transition to its current location will be honored for his service.
Dan Kunnemann was selected to serve as the grand marshal for the Nebraska State Fair Celebration Parade on Saturday, Aug. 25.
Kunnemann, well known in state fair board circles, also has contributed much to his home community. Beginning in 1985, he served 26 years on the Chase County Fair Board, a number of years as its president and treasurer.
At the state level, he served 10 1/2 years on the Nebraska State Fair Board, initially completing a year and  a half to fill out Ed Burke’s term after his death.
In addition, Kunnemann gave another four years on the state fair’s foundation board.
“This means a lot of me,” Kunnemann said, “to be recognized again for your service.”
Kunnemann is proud of the successful state fair transition from Lincoln to Grand Island, which he was a key part of as a member of the fair board’s committee that planned how Grand Island’s Fonner Park would be set up to take on the state fair.
It’s used for much more than the 10-day state fair each year. He said major livestock shows, as well as the state volunteer firefighters annual school in May are among other events scheduled on the state fairgrounds.
