Gaston earns Academic All-American honors

    Greg Gaston has been announced as an Academic All-American following the 2017-2018 track seasons.
    Gaston, a 2017 Wauneta-Palisade graduate, was named to Doane Athletics list of scholar-athletes and the United States Track & Field-Cross Country Coaches Association All-Academic team.
    Doane Scholar-Athletes are awarded to those who participated either on the junior varsity or varsity squad and have a cumulative 3.30 grade point average (GPA).  
    Additionally, a student-­athlete must be a member of their program throughout the entire academic year in which they have eligibility.  
    Gaston joins 232 other Doane student-­athletes on this year’s scholar-athlete list, including 184 from the state of Nebraska. A total of 14 states and three international countries are represented on this year’s list.
    To be honored as an Academic All-American, a student-athlete must meet the academic qualifying standard as well as hit the “A” or “B” qualifying standard for a NAIA National Championship meet.
    The Tigers saw 31 individuals earn USTF-­CCCA All-­Academic honors, leading the NAIA by a wide margin. A total of 215 student-­athletes were selected to the NAIA list.
    The USTF-CCCA Scholar-Team of the Year is awarded to the highest finishing team at the national championship meet who meets the academic requirement.
    The Doane men’s indoor track and field team is the inaugural selection for the NAIA indoor season.
    The Tigers posted a 3.35 team grade point average and finished 17th at the NAIA championships.
    The Tiger men placed 10th in the outdoor championships to be edged out for the Scholar Team of the Year award.
