Wayne Bartels

Wayne LeRoy Bartels was born to Otto and Ida (Damrow) Bartels on May 1, 1939 in Chase County, Neb. He graduated high school in Chase County and went on to take some college courses. Wayne was united in marriage to Donna Maye Kunnemann on July 29, 1962 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Imperial. The family made their home in Chase County on the farm on “The Divide” where Wayne lived his entire life.
Wayne was a lifelong farmer and rancher. He was a member of the Farmers Cooperative and of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in rural Wauneta. When not working, Wayne enjoyed doing metal work and restoring his John Deere 730. He enjoyed his grandkids, water skiing, fishing, camping and traveling to Alaska.
Wayne Bartels passed away early Saturday morning, March 31, 2018 at the Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital in Lincoln. He was 78 years of age.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Donna; son Carl; and sister Betty.
Survivors include daughter Carla (Greg) McKinney of Lincoln; grandchildren Michael McKinney, Emily Zarate, Sarah McKinney and Larissa Tomlinson; brother Dale (Barbara) Bartels of Arizona; sister Barbara (Jerry) Cooper of Nevada; sister Lois Glover of Texas; brother Allen (Joyce) Bartels of Tennessee; and brother-in-law Paul (Lorna) Kunnemann of Imperial.
Funeral services for Wayne Bartels will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, April 6, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in rural Wauneta with Pastor Keith Wellman officiating. Interment will follow at St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery, rural Wauneta.
Visitation will be held Thursday, April 5, from 2 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home in Imperial.
A memorial has been established in Wayne’s memory.
