Wallace and McPherson County offered very different opponents last week to start the Wauneta-Palisade boys’ basketball season.

 

WP tipped off its season Thursday with a win over Wallace. Both teams started off well offensively. WP held an 11-9 lead midway through the opening stanza. Wallace scored the final five points of the quarter, leaving WP trailing 11-14 at the end of the first.

 

Wallace continued to stay one step ahead of the Broncos until three Greg Gaston three-pointers quickly pulled WP ahead, 24-18. Gaston’s hot shooting triggered a three-point barrage for WP. Dennis Cavanaugh and Cash Yearous got in on the action, combining to add five more three-pointers in the second quarter. By the time the smoke had cleared, WP held a 40-22 halftime advantage.
