WCTC Happenings

What has happened at Wauneta Care and Therapy Center? It’s like the song “It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas,” but here it is looking a lot like Halloween.
Seems there are pumpkins all over the place. Our friend Donna Applegarth brought a box of not so big pumpkins. I saw the box carried to the break room and all those little pumpkins were being decorated.
There are strings of spiders hanging in one area, strings of skeletons in another area. Employees have been wearing shirts and blouses with scary designs such as pumpkins, ghost, witches and black cats. The rest room doors and most all doors have a Halloween figure on them. Our house kitty Sugar is too white to be scary. She walks around not a bit scared. Sugar is to sweet to be scary.
One afternoon a group of residents met with Karla stirring up biscuit dough. They waited for the biscuits to bake and ate apple butter on the warm biscuits. The Apple butter was made by Karla’s husband from their own apple tree.
On Thursday this past week a good crowd of residents filled the T.V. area lounge chairs to sing along with Violet Long and her guitar and with her harmonica and yodeling on some songs. Her uncle Roland Fortkamp accompanied on his guitar. There is a lot of entertainment and it is especially nice to sing along to pass time in the afternoon.
On one day some of the employees’ costumes were fun to see. Karla had a long black cape lined in red. I liked Sharon Haarberg’s outfit. It was a complete wardrobe that a young fellow would wear as his daily clothes.
She was a well-dressed cowgirl. She had tan jeans, western shirt, red cowboy hat, gun and holster. She looked very neat. I liked Kris in her red, white and blue dress and red hat. She looked neat and comfortable. She is an assistant to Karla the activity director.
Then, the long awaited day of October 31, got here and at our lunch time meal each resident had a white plastic skull at his or her place. The skull had big black eyes and a mouth full of teeth. They had little handles and were full of candy corn. The staff gave them to us for a Halloween gift.
Then, the night of the 31st,  the facility hosted their annual Trick or Treat Party when most of the children of the area came here to see the decorations and be treated by collecting the candy that each resident had in the halls.
