Wauneta clinic goes to five-day schedule

With the addition of a new doctor, Chase County Medical Clinic in Wauneta has been able to expand its hours to five days a week.
The clinic has added hours Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to noon after hiring Dr. Elizabeth Hatz.
The change started in early November. Previously, the clinic was open half-days Mondays and Fridays—9 a.m. to noon; and 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays.
“It was closed [Wednesdays] because we didn’t have staffing,” clinic Manager Ronda Sargent said.
“It used to be open five days a week. And then when we had staff change, we didn’t have staff to have it open five days a week. Obviously, we want to serve the community.”
Sargent was sure how long it had been open only four days, but said it was at least a year.
Like the other providers employed at the Wauneta clinic, Hatz also will have hours in Imperial.
“It’s not just that we’re looking for providers for [a town the size of] Wauneta,” Sargent said. “We’re looking to provide for our hospital. Imperial has to be staffed first, because they have to have emergency room staff 24 hours.”
