Village discusses sewage main project, future water projects

The Wauneta Village Board of Trustees met for its monthly meeting Nov. 14, 2017 at the village office.
David Blau with Miller & Associates was present to give a report on the sewer project that has been underway the last couple of weeks.
The project initially ran into a larger amount of ground water than was expected which put the project back a bit. The ground water pumping did not add any cost to the village from the original Van Kirk Bros. bid.
While prepping for the horizontal drilling across the river, a water line was discovered. This particular water line’s location was unknown before the sewer project began, but was an important piece in Wauneta’s future water projects.
Blau proposed that the village complete Part D of Wauneta’s 2016 Water System Improvements Project which includes abandoning the water main that crosses the river and tying into Arikaree Street.
This project was already on the village’s docket of completion to help clear the town’s water pipes of any stale water and make the current system as efficient as possible.
Since Van Kirk Bros. is already in town for the sewage main project it offered a quote of $44,390 plus applicable engineering fees to install the new pipeline.
The board approved the motion after discussing the extra money that it would take to bring Van Kirk Bros. or any other company back in.
The project will be funded out of the water fund reserves and then other revenue bonds will be explored to replace the funds.
