State tax review may affect theater, clinic
A state review of property tax exemptions may mean that two Wauneta businesses will begin paying those taxes for the first time.
Chase County Assessor Dorothy Bartels told county commissioners in a recent meeting that the state will be reviewing what are called “permissive exemptions.”
Under Nebraska law, those exemptions from county taxes go to “[p]roperty owned by educational, religious, charitable, or cemetery organizations, or any organization for the exclusive benefit of any such educational, religious, charitable, or cemetery organization, and used exclusively for educational, religious, charitable, or cemetery purposes.” Such property cannot be used for financial gain or profit.
