School nurse keeps eye on pandemic precautions

As a school nurse, Kathy Geier deals with the normal complaints — stomach aches, and sore throats .
“There’s not a lot of walk-in traffic,” she said.
But this year, she’s stepped into the job at Wauneta-Palisade schools during the worst health crisis the U.S. has seen in a century.
While that hasn’t added a huge amount to her workload, there have been additional duties. She oversees twice-daily temperature checks for students conducted by staff, additional checks for visitors to the schools and “a lot of sanitizing,” Geier said.
She’s also consulted with teachers on their classroom seating arrangements that are aimed at consistency, making sure students sit in the same place most of the time in case contact tracing needs to be done.
