Scarecrow contest displays imaginative local talent at Cox’s Pond annual event

Scarecrows dotted the landscape at Cox’s Ponds last weekend.
The annual scarecrow contest brought out a number of creative entries to the delight of visitors at the pumpkin patch.
The adult and youth divisions had four scarecrow entries each.
The first place winner in the adult division was Kayla Holmes of Imperial. Her scarecrow was called “Mr. Cornhusker,” appropriately named for its all red Husker football team apparel. Mr. Cornhusker had corn cobs and husks sprouting out of the top of his head, hands and feet.
The first place team winners in the youth division were Sebastian and Dominic Harris of Wauneta. Their scarecrow was called “Bad to the Bone.” This bony fellow was decked out in biker gang garb, riding his red Schwinn bicycle with front extensions to emulate a motorcycle.
