POW/MIA recognition day presentation at VFW
By Becky Kuntzelman The Imperial Republican
This Friday is National POW/MIA Recognition Day. Congress and President Jimmy Carter established it in 1979 as the third Friday of September each year to recognize and honor these soldiers.
In observance of this day, there is a presentation and display called the Missing Man Table where a narration is given along with an explanation of the symbolism of each item on the table. This ceremony is referred to as “The POW/MIA Remembrance Ceremony.”
