New Sodtown Sundries owners left to right Jared Blackman, Missy Blackman, Charlie Smith and Dolan Smith.

Palisade grocery store changes hands

New owners have taken over Sodtown Sundries grocery store in Palisade.
Jared and Missy Blackman and Charlie and Dolan Smith bought the business from Brock and Stephanie Malcolm.
“We didn’t want to lose our grocery store,” Missy Blackman said. “We use it all the time and we felt it was something we didn’t want to lose.”
Blackman said no big changes are planned for the business.
“We’re still doing a lunch meal,” she said. “Those will differ. They did a lot of bistro sandwiches; one day, we did cheeseburgers, one day we had lasagna. It’s different every day.”
She said several people have asked if the store will continue selling beer, wine and liquor, which they will. They also will continue selling tobacco.
The store also will have soft-serve ice cream and plans to make deliveries from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturdays, although details on that have not yet been nailed down.
The new owners have no background in the grocery business, although Blackman noted with a chuckle that she worked in a grocery store for about a year and a half when she was younger.
