Hot, dry weather calls community members to be extra cautious, vigilent

The Southwest corner of Nebraska has been blasted with a heat wave this past week.
With the mixture of dry and hot weather people are cautioned to be more vigilant and aware of an increase in potential fires and dehydration.
Wauneta Volunteer Fire Department (WVFD) Chief Beau Yoder suggests people stay inside and, most importantly, stay hydrated when it gets this hot.
There have been several fires scattered along the area. In the Perkins County area alone, eight different fires broke out within two and a half hours last Thursday, July 6.
Some have been minor while others caused serious damage and/or injury.
In one of the more major fires involving a combine, Shaun O’Neil received severe burns and a leg injury. He is currently being treated at the Western State Burn Center in Greeley, Colo.
Although harvest is coming to an end for most farmers, people running large equipment in fields and pastures are encouraged to be extra cautious.
