District 9 American Legion Convention held in Curtis

The District 9 American Legion Convention was held March 25, 2017 hosted by Post 95 at the Curtis Community Center at 201 Garlick Avenue. Commander Nelson called the joint meeting to order with colors posted and a hand salute followed by the POW/MIA ceremony and pledge allegiance to the flag.
    Chaplain Moshier offered opening prayer.
    Welcomes were presented by Commander Wiiest and Joyce Peterson. Commander Nelson and District 9 Auxiliary president, Lois Reiners, introduced guests from district staff and state department dignitaries.
    Boys and Girls State convention and bus fund was discussed.
    Ann Trail from McCook presented a program on her project of care packages to Chaplains in Afghanistan. A donation was given to her by the district.
    John Thompson, Nebraska public relations officer, presented District and post awards to the qualifying posts. The Cornerstone Award was presented by Lee Carskadon, Post Area D Vice Commander, to Joan Ward of Palisade.
    Committee reports were made throughout the meeting.
