Cowboy poet to entertain at Historical Society’s dinner

Cowboy Poet John Oliver of Scottsbluff will return to the area where he was raised when he entertains next week at the annual dinner and meeting of the Chase County Historical Society.

Oliver is a native of Wauneta and a graduate of the Class of 1950. He is an avid reader, and enjoys westerns, the Iliad & Odyssey and Shakespeare. He began reciting poems in high school and prefers those that tell a story. His poetry ranges from serious to humorous.
Oliver said his most enjoyable times included pitching baseball for the Wauneta Town Team, along with hunting, fishing and trapping on the family farm, east of Wauneta.
