County insurance policies reviewed, renewed

Chase County Commissioners Dave Hogsett, Chuck Vette and Don Weiss, Jr. met Oct. 24 for their final meeting of October.
During the meeting the commissioners visited with representatives of Hayes Companies about the county’s insurance policy for employees.
Although claims went down overall the net paid increased substantially. Overall, claims have jumped dramatically over the last two years and plans are being used more than they used to be.
No new offers were made for the policy, but the current policy could be renewed.
Discussion included offering a payment to older employees to switch to Medicare.
Rates will be finalized in early November and the commissioners will vote on a plan then.
The commissioners also passed a resolution to continue Chase County’s interlocal agreement with Nebraska Intergovernmental Risk Management Association (NIRMA) through the end of June, 2021.
This year’s dividend check from NIRMA was for $9,462.
NIRMA insures the county’s equipment and buildings and general liability, as well as offering workers’ compensation.
