Commissioners to begin final budget preparations

Chase County Commissioners Chuck Vette and Don Weiss, Jr. met Aug. 22 for the final commissioners’ meeting of August.

Bids opened
Duane Dinnel presented the only bid for a surplus wood bridge that was replaced this spring. The board accepted Dinnel’s bid of $200.
The commissioners also opened bids for a 1995 John Deere 7800 tractor. The board elected to turn down the only bid, $4,343.89.

Concern over Road 727
Jed Doetker attended the meeting to express concern over county employees’ time management. The commissioners reminded Doetker that more goes into the employees’ jobs than just maintaining roads.
The group specifically discussed Road 727. The road is heavily travelled by trucks hauling feed into the hog facility on Avenue 337. Weiss said the road will need to be built up this spring. Vette said his crew would work to get a better crown on the road.
