Christi Christner and Sheri Hink-Wagner stop for a minute on the main street of Wauneta, a community for which they both carry a passion.

Christi Christner accepts Wauneta Breeze editor role

Change ahead finds Sheri Hink-Wagner preparing to turn over Wauneta Breeze editorial responsibilities to Christi Christner, according to Breeze Co-Publisher Lori Pankonin.
Christner is no stranger to either the Breeze or the community as she served as a Breeze intern during her Wauneta-Palisade school days.
Connection to Wauneta wasn’t new to Hink-Wagner when she joined the Breeze staff more than five years ago.
“It has been my honor to serve the Wauneta area as managing editor the past few years. I have fallen back in love with a community that I often visited in my childhood,” said Hink-Wagner.
Years ago, Hink-Wagner volunteered at the local nursing home when her mother, Elaine Hink, was administrator, utilizing the swimming pool for afternoon entertainment.
She was on staff at the Nebraska Community Foundation (NCF) in Lincoln when Pankonin served on the NCF board of directors. Upon learning Hink-Wagner had a desire to move back to western Nebraska, Pankonin saw her as a good fit with Johnson Publications.
“We’re losing a gem,” said Pankonin. “Sheri hit the ground running with a natural writing ability, over-the-top technical skills, a hard-work ethic and an amazing desire to learn,” Pankonin added.
She was self-taught in many areas and soaked in information at workshops and press conventions, carrying on the Breeze history as an award-winning newspaper.
