Chase County Commissioners act on old business

Chase County Commissioners Dave Hogsett, Chuck Vette and Don Weiss, Jr. wrapped up February with a meeting Feb. 28.
Despite visits from John Webster with Murphy Tractor and Gregg O’Brien representing Cat, the board decided to not bid on a new road grader.
Weiss had been interested in adding another grader to the county’s stable, along with another operator. Hogsett suggested at the Feb. 14 meeting that a road groomer may be a better option.
The group did approve advertising for another grader operator to replace a retiring employee in District 1. The county is also looking for a new weed superintendent.
It was approved to change pay rate for the Wauneta ambulance crew to the same as the Imperial crews. Wauneta had previously been paid $1 per mile to be split between crew members on the run. That has been changed to 80 cents per mile for each crew member.
After hearing from GIS Workshop, Inc. representative Geneie Andrews at the Feb. 14 meeting, the commissioners elected to not add Geographic Information Systems (GIS) tabs for the roads and emergency manager. The board currently pays $6,490 for the assessor and $2,650 for the zoning commission tabs. While the zoning and assessor amounts would have decreased, the overall cost of would have increased to $13,606, plus set up costs.
The board also elected to hold off on approving the GIS flyover until a guarantee could be received about the quality of the photos. The cost of the project would be $30,000.
