Blood drive to be in Wauneta Aug. 20

One of the few heartening scenes to come out of recent mass shootings in Texas and Ohio showed long lines of donors at blood banks in those areas.
It’s too late to donate for those victims, and you’re too far away, but there will soon be a chance to meet the need for blood in this area.
The American Red Cross blood drive will come to Wauneta Aug. 20. Donations will be taken from noon to 6 p.m. MT at the Community Building.
Lana Skelton, who is coordinating the drive along with Janet Keiser, said the drive is part of regular collection activities and not aimed at any particular need.
While the need remains fairly steady throughout the year, it often increases around holidays and in the warm months, where travel hikes the risk of auto accidents, Skelton said.
The Red Cross is looking for all blood types, especially Type O, which is a universal donor.
Keiser didn’t have a number for the exact goal in Wauneta, but said that usually is around 28 units.
