April is Fair Housing Month

The Southwest Nebraska Community Betterment Corporation wants all Nebraskans to understand their fair housing rights.
The Fair Housing Act makes discrimination in the sale, rental, and advertising in housing unlawful, and assures that our citizens are treated equally.
It prohibits housing discrimination based upon race, color, national origin, religion, age, gender, disability, marital status, or familial status.
Unfortunately, discrimination continues to occur and prevents many Nebraskans from having the chance to live in safe, affordable, quality housing.
A lack of understanding about fair housing rights and how the laws can be enforced could be a barrier to fair housing.
