Family reunion and genealogy work continues at the Bob Kitt home near Wauneta ahead of the Kitt 125th Celebration to be held during Wauneta’s annual Harvest Festival. Bob is joined by his cousins Maxine Smith of Wyoming, Cheryl Bryan of Imperial and Marla Smith of Imperial. The four are all grandchildren of Ray and Hilda Kitt.

This past week was busy for future Wauneta-Palisade Bronco athletes. The school offered a two-day camp for students wanting to learn volleyball and football fundamentals. The volleyball camp was open to all third through eighth graders. Head volleyball coach Terra Higgins, pictured left, focused on the proper hitting approach and techniques. Participants were divided into groups based on their age. Each group was assisted by several high school volleyball players. The football camp was open to all third through sixth graders. Joseph Frecks, co-head football coach pictured right, led participants in warm ups, stretches and taught general football basics. Each participant received a football for participating in the camp.

Sports

The team of Trent Harshbarger, Lonnie Krueger and Chris Krueger shot a 64 for the day to win the 3-Person Scramble, sponsored by the Southwest Nebraska Ikes.

With the July 14 event behind them, racers at Phillips County Raceway have made it through the mid season championships and are ramping up for the second half of the season.

Hunters of migratory birds are reminded of their requirement to register for the Harvest Information Program (HIP) beginning Aug. 1.

Two natural resources districts (NRDs) where the Lincoln County augmentation project is located want to set pumping allocations for the project, commonly known as NCORPE.

Wauneta-Palisade student Reagan Skow recently participated in the All American Certified Angus Beef (CAB) Cook-Off in Des Moines, Iowa.

Duncan Rector is now a published author. His poem “Are you happy” will be featured in America Library of Poetry’s book “Treasured” which will released in August.

Although passionate about all things sports, Duncan Rector has recently found another avenue of interest—poetry.

Mid-Plains Community College is down to its final two Registration Days of the summer. The first will be Aug. 1 in North Platte, and the second will be Aug. 3 in McCook.

Chase County Community Hospital (CCCH) has recently welcomed a new medical student to its team for the next month.
