Youth volunteerism leads to success

Youth who serve others and have useful roles in the community are more likely to succeed in life. Studies suggest that youth volunteerism contributes to identity development, enhancement of skills, including increasing job marketability, increase self-esteem and development of empathy for others.
Not only do the youth reap the benefits of their volunteering efforts, but so does the community. Over $60 billion is estimated to be contributed annually to the U.S. economy by volunteers. Service organizations can cut down on costs and make services available to larger audiences thanks to individuals who volunteer. Volunteering by youth provides positive citizenship among youth by encouraging them to be more engaged in their own communities. Youth feel more connected to their community after volunteering and are more likely to stay or return to their community. Youth volunteerism contributes substantially to community vitality.
