Broncos beat South Platte at home, nipped at Hyannis
After splitting games against South Platte and Hyannis, the Wauneta-Palisade boy’s basketball team heads into the holiday break one game below .500.
The Broncos got off to a hot start in Friday’s contest against South Platte (3-3), and once more it was WP’s seniors leading the way.
Ty Duvel scored WP’s first six points of the game, and finished with eight points in the quarter.
Classmates Austen Rozelle and Ben Anderjaska started off with three-pointers and Tucker Boos knocked in a two-point field goal. Combined, the trio scored 20 of WP’s first-quarter points.
The trend continued in the second quarter with the quartet scoring 22 of WP’s 24 points.
Boos made two three-pointers and Anderjaska made another triple to help WP to a 45-25 lead.
Rozelle added eight third-quarter points and Duvel chipped in six.
Grant Walker made a three-pointer as WP increased its lead to 68-40 heading into the fourth quarter.
Anderjaska and Boos made WP’s eighth and ninth three-pointers of the game in the fourth quarter to finish off the Knights 84-53.
Duvel led WP with 21 points. Rozelle was close behind with 18 points.
Boos and Anderjaska scored 16 and 15 points, respectively, including three three-pointers each.
