MPCC takes grain bin safety message to State Fair

Grain bin safety has been a priority for Tim Zehnder since he arrived at the McCook Community College campus in 2013. This past weekend–for the first time–he was able to take the safety message to the masses at the Nebraska State Fair Saturday and Sunday.
As Director of Fire Science at Mid-Plains Community College, Zehnder helped build and implement a portable grain bin rescue simulator in 2014 which the college has taken to many rural departments to provide training, demonstrations and insight into grain bin safety and rescue techniques.
“Many times, people are trying to clean the rust off the bins when they end up falling in,” Zehnder told groups gathered at the MPCC exhibit, west of the Nebraska Building at Fonner Park.
