Lela (Lee) Francis - October 29, 2009


Lela (Lee) Francis passed away peacefully in Holyoke, Colo., at the age of 83 on Oct. 29, 2009.
Lela was born to Marion Boyce and Helen (Parsons) Boyce near Stratton, Neb., on June 23, 1926. She grew up on the South Divide on the family farm approximately 15 miles south of Wauneta, Neb. Lela graduated from Stratton High School in 1945, and then taught school for two years in a one-room school south of Wauneta.
She was married to Lyle Francis on Dec. 26, 1947, and they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary shortly before Lytle’s death in February of 1998. To this union, one daughter, Connie Elaine, was born in 1950.
In 1952, the family moved to Denver, Colo. Lela worked for Samsonite Luggage, then for Frederick Ross Investment Company and finally for Denver Public Schools for 20 years, retiring in 1988. In 1965, Lela obtained her Real Estate License and her Real Estate Broker License in 1975, and worked in real estate part time with her husband, Lyle.
Lela moved to Julesburg, Colo., in 2003 and participated in two bridge groups, Julesburg Garden Club and Women’s Club and was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church. For the last year, Lela resided in Regents Park Nursing Home/Assisted Living in Holyoke, Colo,.
Lela was active in the following organizations while in Denver: ESA International Sorority for 50 years; the Fleur de Lis Garden Club and Bridge Club for 55 years each, DAEOP (DPS office personnel) for 20 years. During the years Connie was in school she was active in PTA. Lela loved being an active member of All Souls Catholic Church in Denver.
Lela enjoyed numerous hobbies and interests including the following: raising flowers, reading, cooking, antiquing, watching her extensive collection of movies, listening to big band music, traveling and spending social time with friends and family.
Lela loved her family and her many friends. She worked at maintaining ties with them from childhood through her adult life. She dearly loved cats; she always had a “kitty” residing with her.
Survivors include: daughter Connie and son-in-law Paul Warner of Julesburg, Colo.; granddaughter Melissa and husband Tad Huser of Oak Creek, Colo.; grandson Jeremiah Warner; great grandsons Dylan and Drew Warner and their mother Jodi of Brighton, Colo. Lyle’s nephew Jerry Donze and wife Sandy were very special to Lela.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lyle Francis and parents, Marion and Helen Boyce.

Services were held at the St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Julesburg, Colo., on Monday, Nov, 2, 2009, and her ashes will be placed in the family plot in the cemetery at Wauneta.
