Sylvia Polly - September 27, 2009

Sylvia Jane Polly was born on Oct. 31, 1945, in Imperial, Neb., to Helen and Ralph Sandman, Jr.
On Sept. 27, 2009, at the age of 63, Sylvia passed away peacefully in Lakewood, Colo.
Preceding Sylvia in death were her father, Ralph, in 1946 and her mother, Helen, in 1999.
Sylvia is survived by twin daughters, Christine and husband, Tim Oetjen, of Gilbert, Ariz. and Janette and husband, Eddie Read, of Highlands Ranch, Colo.; three grandchildren: Zachary Oetjen age 4, Brock Read age 3, and Emme Read age 1; stepfather, Jack Claney and friend, Duanne Dixon; sister, Tonda and husband, Max McGarr; nephew, Russ Mann and wife, Kalli, all of Imperial, Neb.
As a young girl Sylvia began her education at Rural Service District 21 through second grade. She completed her education in the Chase County school system, graduating in 1964. Upon graduation Sylvia attended Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Denver, Colo., receiving her cap after completing her preliminary training.
Sylvia was united in marriage to James Polly on Dec. 17, 1966. To this union twin daughters, Christine Kaye and Janette Lynne, were born on March 11, 1972.
Sylvia worked as an office manager at High Plains Pediatrics in Scottsbluff, Neb., for many years. In 1992, Sylvia relocated to Phoenix, Ariz., and accepted a position with Newscount, a news monitoring agency.
Sylvia returned to Imperial in 1997 to care for her family.
She reentered the professional field in 2000 with First Bank and Trust in Imperial, where she remained until July 2009.
Sylvia was appointed to the Board of Directors at the Chase County Hospital on May 10, 2005, where she served until her death.
The illness that took Sylvia’s life never overcame her beautiful spirit. With her daughters by her side, she passed away with courage and grace, knowing for certain she will be with us forever….cherished by her family and friends for the love and laughter she brought into our lives.
A celebration of Sylvia’s life will be held at the First United Metho­dist Church in Imperial, Neb. on Saturday, Oct. 3, 2009 at 11 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial gifts be given to assist in the advancement of cancer research. Gifts may be forwarded to the University of Colorado Foundation, Attn.
