Troy Skelton - April 05, 2014
Troy Lynn Skelton, resident of Wauneta, Neb., passed away Saturday, April 5, 2014, at the Chase County Community Hospital, in Imperial, Neb.
He was born on Aug. 21, 1967, in Stratton, Neb., to Jerry and Trudy (Gloy) Skelton. He was 46 years of age.
He was baptized at the United Methodist Church in Wauneta.
He grew up and attended school in Arvada, Colo., and spent many summers and vacations visiting family back in Nebraska.
Troy married Evelyn Brown on Sept. 9, 1989, in Glendale, Ariz. He was blessed with two children, son Colby and daughter Emma. While his children were very young, he moved his family to Wauneta, Neb., and enjoyed raising his family in a small town.
Troy was an EMT-Paramedic for the Wauneta EMS squad and loved serving his community.
He started his business, S&S Construction, in 1998.
He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed all things outdoors - hunting, fishing, sports, and loved to share his joy with anyone one who would join him.
He enjoyed watching his children participate in sports and other activities and supported and coached them in all of their endeavors.
He was preceded in death by his father, Jerry Skelton; grandparents, June and Winfield “Windy” Skelton; grandfather, Reinhold Gloy; and uncle, Ron Gloy.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Evelyn; son, Colby and daughter, Emma; mother, Trudy Skelton of Surprise, Ariz.; grandmother, Edith Gloy of Scottsdale, Ariz.; brothers: Luke Skelton and wife Susan of Scottsdale, Ariz., Todd Skelton and wife Kim of Litchfield, Ariz., Monty Skelton and wife Wendy of Glendale, Ariz.; aunts and uncles: Karen Hartman of McCook, Neb., Gene Skelton and wife Darby of Scottsdale, Ariz., Naomi and husband Jim Brown of Escondido, Calif., Pam and husband David Brown of Ogallala, Neb.; mother-in-law, Dorothy Brown of Peoria, Ariz.; father-in-law, Russell Brown of Grovetown, Ga.; brothers and sisters-in-law: Andy Brown and wife JoAnne of Peoria, Ariz., Pam and husband Doug Robinson of Bridgewater, N.J., Suzanne and husband Darrel Gross of Cedar Park, Texas, Margaret and husband Chris Grasso of Glendale, Ariz., Jim Brown and wife Kimm of Glendale, Ariz., and Steve Brown of Atlanta, Ga.; Cousins: Wendi Goodenberger, Mindi Bauer, Nate Nordhausen, Trevor and Chase Skelton, Melissa Ard, Ben Brown , Gretchen Nowak, and Rachel Ervin; and many nieces and nephews and a multitude of friends.
Funeral services were held on Friday, April 11, 2014, at the United Methodist Church, Wauneta, at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Bonnie McCord officiating.
Music was provided by organist Diana Ham and congregational hymns chosen were “How Great Thou Art” and “I’ll Fly Away” with the closing selection, “Amazing Grace,” a bag pipes instrumental.
Casketbearers were Colby Skelton, Steve Pollmann, Chad DeWester, Travis Miller, Carl Woofter, Alan Woofer with Dana King and Taylor Dixon, honorary casketbearers.
Inurnment will be held at Riverside Cemetery, Wauneta, at a later date.
Liewer Funeral Home of Wauneta was in charge of arrangements.
