Ruth Colard - May 06, 2013


Ruth Ellen Colard was born Sept. 8, 1919, in Denver, Colo., to James and Clara Gallaway.
Ruth married Leslie O. Colard on Nov. 13, 1935, in Englewood, Colo. To this marriage two sons, Donald and Steven, were born.
Ruth had a great love for life. She loved oil painting outdoor scenes; she would paint while Leslie fished. She was a member of the Orchid Society in Denver and had many beautiful orchids.
Ruth was an avid reader for many years, until her failing eyesight made it difficult. She had two cats, Bootsy and Sassy, that she loved very much. She also loved bulldogs.
Ruth enjoyed classical music. A highlight of her life was seeing classical violinist Andre Rieu in person.
Ruth moved to Wauneta, Neb., in 2006. She enjoyed her new home and new friends, but always missed the mountains of Colorado.
Ruth passed away May 6, 2013, at the Sunrise Heights Nursing Home of Wauneta. She was 93 years of age.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Leslie on May 14 of 1977; son Donald; two sisters and brothers-in-law: Hazel and Mike Wright and Nina and Archie Simpleman; a brother and sister-in- law George and Peggy Marrs.
Survivors include: son, Steven Colard and wife, Carol, of Clyde, Kan.; two grandsons: Eric Colard and wife, Nancy, of Buena Vista, Colo., and Bryan Colard of Concordia, Kan.; nieces: Ruth and husband, Rodney Petsch, of Wauneta, Donna Jursch of Buena Vista, Colo., and Jeannie and husband, Peter Scholl, of Colorado Springs, Colo.; nephews: Thomas Marrs and wife, Judy, of Montrose, Colo., Earnie Marrs and wife, Janine, of Dearing, Ga., Robert Marrs and wife, Marie, of New Jersey.
Graveside services and interment were held Monday morning, May 13, 2013, 11:00 a.m. MT at Crown Hill Cemetery, Wheat Ridge, Colo., with Rev. Paul Mauritz officiating.
Viewing was held prior to services at the cemetery.
A memorial has been established to the Wauneta Senior Center.
