Edward Johnson - April 20, 2013
Edward Eugene Johnson was born Nov. 5, 1948, in McCook, Neb., to Ida (Vogel) and Eugene Edward Johnson. Edward grew up and attended high school in Colorado Springs, Colo., graduating in 1967.
Edward enlisted in the U.S. Army and served two years during Vietnam. He was injured in battle three times and was awarded numerous medals including the Bronze Star.
On July 16, 1990, he married Becki DeBord and the couple settled in Palisade, Neb. He was employed at Southwest Public Power for 36 years before retiring in 2003. From 2003 to the time of his death, Edward was a professional driver for several companies including Adams, Core, and Sunrise Express.
Edward was a member of the VFW. He enjoyed woodworking, cabinet making, U.S. military history, Louis L’Amour novels, fishing and John Wayne movies.
He passed away Saturday night, April 20, 2013, in an auto accident near Palisade. He was 64 years of age.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ida and Eugene Edward Johnson.
Survivors include: wife Becki of Palisade; sons: Benji Harrison of McCook, Neb., Andrew Harrison and wife, Rebecca, of Thornton, Colo., Kevin Harrison and Jessica Mowrer, of Longmont, Colo.; two grandchildren: Elise and Paige Harrison; sister Kathy Fickle and Jim Fickle of Bartley, Neb.; niece Kristi Holly of Loomis, Neb.; great nieces: Bethany and Caitlyn Fickle, of Loomis, Neb., and Mikayla Holly, also of Loomis.
Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon, April 25, 2013, 2:00 p.m. CT at the Hamlet Union Church, Hamlet, Neb., with Pastor Joshua Clark officiating.
A private family inurnment will be held at the Palisade cemetery at a later date.
Visitation was held Wednesday afternoon, April 24, 2013, 2:00-6:00 p.m. MT at the Liewer Funeral Home in Wauneta.
In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in Edward’s memory.
Liewer Funeral Home of Wauneta was in charge of arrangements.
