Ron Sherman - December 31, 1969
Ron Sherman, age 61 of Gurley, Neb., passed away at the Memorial Health Center in Sidney, Neb., Wednesday, March 14, 2012.
Ronald Dean Sherman, the son of Edgar Ray and Charlotte (DuMond) Sherman, was born on June 25, 1950, at Scottsbluff, Neb.
The family moved to Twin Falls, Idaho, when Ron was a boy and he attended schools there.
On Dec. 27, 1968, he enlisted in the United States Navy serving in Vietnam. Ron received his release from active duty on Dec. 14, 1970, and his Honorable Discharge on Sept. 16, 1974.
Ron returned to Nebraska and lived in the Oshkosh area and worked for Medwic.
This is where he met Eileen Ann Kepler. They were united in marriage on May 28, 1971, at Oshkosh, a union spanning 40 years and included the birth of two children.
Ron also worked for the Chase County Roads Department in Imperial and Wauneta for many years.
They lived in Broadwater, Dalton and for the past 22 years, he called Gurley home. He worked at several places including The Egging Company and has been employed at Pennington Seed since August of 1996.
Ron enjoyed hunting, fishing, living on the farm, working in his shop and spending time with his dog, Casey.
Ron was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Kerri Michelle; his father, Ray; brothers, Robert and Jerry; and sister, Phyllis Sherman.
Survivors include his wife, Eileen of Gurley; son, Mike of Gurley; his mother, Charlotte Sherman of Scottsbluff; brothers, Raymond of Hillsboro, Ore., Richard, Mike and wife, Carol, and Mick and wife, Laura, all of Twin Falls, Idaho; sisters, Sharon White of Twin Falls, Linda and husband, Jerry Hopwood of Omaha and Rosemary Mays of Scottsbluff; and sister-in-law, Paula Sherman of Twin Falls.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, March 20, in the Church of the Nazarene with Rev. Leonard Suhr officiating.
Military graveside honors followed in the Greenwood Cemetery in Sidney.
Memorial contributions may be made in care of the family.
Gehrig-Stitt Chapel & Cremation Services was in charge of arrangements.
