William Jeffries - May 22, 2011

William ‘Bill’ Jeffries was born Oct. 7, 1923, to Willis and Minnie (Lockett) Jeffries of Hamlet, Neb. Bill graduated from Hamlet High School in Hamlet. He then joined the Army Air Corps where he was a tail gunner until the end of the European Campaign of World War II. Bill received the Purple Heart medal.
Bill was married to Gladys Bischoff on May 8, 1946, and two children, Danny and Kathryn, were born to this union.
He sold feed and seed for many years and was also the Veterans’ Service Officer for Chase County.
Bill passed away Sunday evening, May 22, 2011, at the Imperial Manor Nursing Home. He was 87 years of age.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife; one older brother, Bunny; three sisters, Louise, Helena and Jerry.
Survivors include: son, Danny of Wauneta, Neb.,daughter, Kathryn and husband, William Crabbs, of Littleton, Colo., sister, Nellie Rose, and husband, John Bishop, of Gilbert, Ariz.,
five grandchildren: Frank Jeffries, Jessie Jeffries, Bonnie and husband, Jeremy Tiller, Willis Crabbs, and Josephine Crabbs; five great grandchildren: Tanaya, Declan, Falen, Lucian and Lilah; brothers-in-law: Dale Bischoff and Clifford Shackelford, both of Wauneta; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Memorial services for Bill Jeffries were held Friday morning, May 27, 2011, 10:30 a.m. (MT) at the Redeemer Lutheran Church of Wauneta with Pastor Greg Stuckwisch officiating.
Music was provided by Berneta Steinert, organist and Elaine Roschewski, soloist. Musical selections were “Beautful Savior” and “I Know That My Redeemer Lives.”
There was no visitation, Bill chose cremation.
A private family inurnment at Riverside Cemetery was held before services with military rites conducted by American Legion Post #304 of Wauneta.
A memorial has been established to the Wauneta American Legion Post # 304.
